Culina Palletforce Racing Unveils Driver Line-Up For 2013 British Rally Championship

March 13 2013

The newly-born, two-car Culina Palletforce Racing team is set to contest the 2013 MSA British Rally Championship (BRC) and today unveiled its exciting driver line-up for this season’s assault on the UK’s premier rally series.

MSA Team UK driver John MacCrone from the Isle of Mull will spearhead the attack and he’s joined by experienced Welsh co-driver, and former British Rally Champion, Phil Pugh. The second car will be crewed by Carlisle ace, and former Pirelli Star Driver finalist, Peter Taylor with co-driver Andrew Roughead from Newcastle calling the pacenotes.

Both crews will drive identical Citroen DS3 R3 rally cars prepared by Carlisle-based CA1 Sport and will contest both the BRC series and the competitive one-make Citroen Racing Trophy UK. In addition, Culina Palletforce Racing will challenge for overall honours in the BRC Teams Cup.

Twenty-three-year-old MacCrone will come to the championship after a series of stunning performances in the World Rally Championship Academy in 2012. This experience, and the guidance from new co-driver Pugh, will set MacCrone as one of the favourites for success in the BRC this season. However, the opening rally will be his first taste of competition in the Citroen DS3 and the young Scot expects it to take a little while before he’s fully up to speed.
Team-mate Taylor has only completed two small rallies in a DS3 but has tackled events in the BRC series for the last few seasons. This experience, and the long-standing working relationship with co-driver Roughead, will ensure he’s also challenging for overall victories.

Culina Palletforce Racing is a partnership between two major road transport and distribution companies: Culina Logistics and Palletforce. While the BRC team may be new, Palletforce has been a supporter of MacCrone for the last few years. The team will contest all seven rounds of this year’s British championship kicking off with Rally North Wales on 6-7 April.

The MSA British Rally Championship is contested across seven rallies which take place throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Competitors race against the clock on timed special stages on both gravel and Tarmac surfaces.

John MacCrone, Culina Palletforce Racing driver, said: “I’m really privileged to have been given this opportunity. The title of British Rally Champion is one that every young driver wants on their CV so I’m really focused on doing the best I can this season. I’m working hard to prepare for the first event on everything from my fitness to pacenote training with Phil so we can hit the ground running.”

Peter Taylor, Culina Palletforce Racing driver, said: “Competing as part of a high-level, two-car team is a great opportunity for me this season. Last year my car wasn’t really up to the challenge and I struggled to be on the pace of the other drivers. But this year things should be different – having the support of an experienced team and team-mates will make a big difference.”

Thomas Van Mourik, Culina Palletforce Racing team principal, said: “Culina Palletforce Racing is an exciting new venture for both Culina and Palletforce. In business we strive to compete at the top level, deliver the best possible service to our clients and perform with distinction and integrity. These synergies applied within top-class motorsport will enable us to achieve success in the championship. We have a strong driver line-up and an experienced support team allowing us to build our brand and activate our participation with full national exposure.”

Mark Taylor, MSA British Rally Championship manager, said: “The MSA British Rally Championship welcomes Culina Palletforce Racing to what is sure to be an exciting season of thrilling competition across some of the UK"s top rally events. The addition of John MacCrone and Peter Taylor to the ranks of this year"s title challengers will certainly add to the spectacle for fans. With growing commercial support, continued Sky Sports coverage and a full range of social media platforms, we expect this year"s championship to deliver significant benefits for both competitors and team sponsors.
